Software such as EZ Drummer or Superior Drummer can be really beneficial to not only mixing but songwriting as well. Today, there are some fantastic pieces of software available, whether it be for a replacement of a recorded kit or even just a way of adding another tonal layer to your drum recordings. You’ll also have a range of samples available from classic acoustic kits through to electronic 808 style drums.ĭrum replacement is a bit of a touchy subject, some see it as cheating whereas others embrace it as a staple of modern mixing. This can be triggered from an mic’d up acoustic drum or from an electronic drum module.ĭepending on which software you use, you’ll usually have tweakable parameters to create a custom sound such as a ‘wet/dry’ option which lets you blend your sampled snare with the original. Modern software works live within your DAW and processes each drum hit individually in order to replicate the volume and tone of each drum stroke with a pre-recorded sample. The idea of using this technique followed on from the rise of drum machines which enabled producers to find the ‘perfect’ sound for their drum tracks.

We run you through our top 6 drum replacement plugins.ĭrum replacement refers to plug ins or software which analyses the sounds of a drum hit (a snare, tom or kick drum) and uses high-quality samples (within a DAW such as Pro Tools) to replicate that sound with a professionally recorded drum sample in real time.Looking for the best drum replacement/drum trigger plugins?.I made up a project template and a track template for combined EZ/Kontakt drum setup, it's just a click or 2 for instant setup now.Disclosure: We may receive commissions when you click our links and make purchases. The cymbals and hats aren't working properly for V drums just yet, so I'm still triggering those in EZ drummer for now. OT I bought the Steven Slate Signature Drums II and Kontakt3 and couldn't be happier, a much wider selection and much better and 'realer' sounds imo.extremely fast to change sounds too. I mute the Room and Comp tracks and turn off both bleeds too, otherwise you will be getting the original sample mixed in, and add some room verb and comp on the buss or a send.

You only have 8 outputs from EZ I think, so with DFH you'll need to choose regarding tom selection to output. You can either blend the original in Drumagog, or create sends to separate tracks, set drumagog to 100%, and use the faders to blend (you want to not hear the original so it's easy.) Yeah I was doing it, just build multi-output routing and put Drumagog on the kick/snare/tom tracks. However i also want to no longer hear the original sample. I want to create a drumtrack in ezdrummer as per usual, split it into a multi-channel routing: kick, snare, toms etc and the i want to use drumagog to get some differnt snare/kick sounds I was wondering if any of you know if the following is possible:
